Have you dreamed of playing an instrument? Does your child want to learn to play? I'd love to help those goals become reality. I have been playing music for most of my life and teaching for the past ten years. I teach at home and at Musicology of Newnan. My schedule is flexible - afternoons, evenings, and even weekends - so finding a lesson time isn't a problem.
Planning a wedding or special event? Acoustic music adds a beautiful touch and creates a memorable experience for your guests. I have performed at weddings in beautiful churches, private homes, small chapels, and outdoors beside waterfalls. I can perform traditional classical pieces, and I can create arrangements of requested songs that have meaning for the celebrants. I've played for Christmas parties, corporate events, and birthday dinners and celebrations.
I perform mainly on acoustic guitar, but I also offer music on hammered dulcimer and harp guitar. My music is strictly acoustic instrumental, but I can arrange for vocalists and other musicians or play along with a musician or vocalist of your choosing.
Rates vary based on the location, time of performance, and if special arrangements are requested. I have my own amplification equipment and take pride in unobtrusive set-ups and departures.
I play in a variety of genres: classical, hymns, light pop and jazz, and Hawaiian slack key. A fingerstyle player uses her instrument to create the melody line, bass, and accompanying chords. Fingerstylists use their nails or bare fingertips rather than a flatpick.
I would love to help make your wedding or event even more special with just the right acoustic music. Please visit my Tips page from the menu above to read some helpful hings for making your event's music just right.
I enjoy providing opportunities for my students to perform. Young and old, a good time is always had by all. You're invited to join the fun.
I teach acoustic, electric, and beginning piano and bass guitar, along with mountain dulcimer and ukulele. I'm primarily a fingerstyle player with a classical background, so I'm probably not the best choice if your child is dreaming of playing heavy metal. I have taught very young children, starting at age six, up to adults in the 70s. I have taught children with autism and Down's Syndrome. My 26 years in the public schools as a teacher of gifted students and my doctorate in early childhood education give me a strong background to work with a wide variety of students.
If you are in the Newnan area, please contact Musicology of Newnan to set a lesson time. www.musicologyofnewnan.com
For students in the Carrollton area, lessons are $20.00 for a half hour and $35.00 for an hour. For beginners, a half hour is best. For children, I use a method book, and we work on songs the student wants to learn to play. With adults, we can use a method book if your goals include learning to read music notation. If you're mainly inspired to be able to play along with your favorite tunes, we will begin with chords and have you strumming in much less time than you might imagine. Of course, as with any new endeavor, practice and work will make progress and success happen much faster.
